Anonymous Birth in Austria
An anonymous birth is free of charge at all Austrian hospitals with a maternity ward. This option is also available to people from outside Austria. Anonymous prenatal care and ambulance transport are also free of charge. After the birth, the legal guardian of the child becomes the Youth Social Assistance Office, and the care of the child is transferred to foster parents (future adoptive parents).
From the moment of birth, you have about 6 months to change your decision. Typically, you can reverse the decision to give up the child until the adoption process is completed. To do so, you must renounce your anonymity and apply to the court for custody of the child.
You will find more information about anonymous birth here.
